Ypsilanti Civil Infractions and Your OptionsYou have two options in dealing with traffic tickets.
First, you can work out a deal with the prosecutor and police officer. The goal of the deal would be to get rid of the original ticket in exchange for a ticket with less impact to your driver’s license.
For example, let’s say you received a ticket for speeding 5 mph over the speed limit, a 2 point ticket. A good deal would be for a dismissal of speeding ticket in exchange for an impeding traffic ticket, which has zero points. The deal saves you points. In addition, an impeding traffic ticket would not go on your driving record.
Second, you can hold a hearing, which is like a mini-trial over the alleged infraction. At the hearing, the police officer, any witnesses, and you could testify as to the alleged events. Then the judge makes a decision. If you win then you don’t receive any impact from the ticket. A loss means you are stuck with the original ticket.

Ypsilanti Traffic Misdemeanor LawyerIn addition to a civil infraction, a person could also be charged with a traffic misdemeanor. A misdemeanor is more serious than a civil infraction. A misdemeanor is a crime that goes on a criminal record. Common traffic misdemeanors include reckless driving, drag racing, and leaving the scene of an accident. Like civil infractions, misdemeanors can also come with points and can go on your driving record. When charged with a misdemeanor you are entitled to the full protection of the law, including a jury trial.
